Members visit award-winning Collaton homes site to review progress

Deputy Leader, Cllr Dan Thomas and Lead Member for Housing, Cllr Denise O’Callaghan visited the award-winning Collaton Park development last month, where significant progress has been made in the ongoing demolition and infrastructure works. 

It marks an important milestone in our commitment to deliver more high -quality sustainable housing for the community.

This exciting development will offer 125 new energy-efficient homes with 46% of those being affordable along with open market homes, self-build plots and properties for the over 55’s.

Eighteen of the affordable homes will be available through Newton and Noss Community Land Trust, strengthening our commitment to working with communities to deliver more homes where needed most.

Accompanied by representatives from Pillar Land Securities, Members were given an extensive tour of the site, which has garnered recognition for its design, commitment to environmental sustainability and housing offer through the innovative housing strategy of "A Different Approach". The visit provided an opportunity to observe first-hand the advancements in both the demolition of old structures and the preparation of infrastructure that will support the future phases of development.

Cllr Denise O’Callaghan said: Creating more homes which local people need is at the top of our priority list and it's encouraging to see the transformation taking place here at Collaton Park”

The Collaton Park development is a flagship project for "A Different Approach" for the region, combining innovative design with a focus on environmental stewardship. The site will eventually feature a mix of affordable and market homes, designed to accommodate a diverse range of residents. The project has already won several national awards for its concept, design and sustainability, reflecting the high standards that we are striving to uphold in our housing initiatives.

During the visit, the councillors also met members of the construction team and discussed the challenges and opportunities presented by the project. 

Cllr Dan Thomas said: “I am impressed with the attention to detail of the housing offer and the commitment to sustainability that has been demonstrated throughout this project. 

“It is essential that we continue to support developments like this, which not only provide much-needed quality housing but do so in a way that respects and enhances our local environment. Tacking climate change is very much at the top of our agenda and this development is another step in the right direction.” 

The site visit concluded with a commitment from us to continue its close collaboration with Pillar Land and Coln Signature Homes, ensuring that the project stays on track and meets its ambitious targets. The Deputy Leader reaffirmed our dedication to delivering high-quality housing solutions that benefit the entire community.
