As part of the new service, you can recycle food waste every week in your food waste caddy. The brown bin will be just for garden waste.

New Recycling Service

We are rolling out the new service throughout Spring 2021

If you have received your new containers, please follow the guidance below.

If you have not received your new recycling containers, please continue to use your brown bin for food waste.

What goes in my brown bin?

Yes, please!

No, thank you!

Grass cuttingsCardboard
Hedge cuttingsSoil
Cut flowers and plantsHutch sweepings
Weeds, leaves and twigsAsh
Branches up to 10 cm (4 inches) in diameterRubble

The bin remains the property of the Council and should not be removed from your home. It is the residents' responsibility to keep it clean while it's in use.

Garden waste should be placed loose in the bin. If you want to use liners, they must be marked with the compostable 'seedling' logo.

Please note this service is only available to properties suitable for wheelie bins.

Cardboard cannot be accepted in the brown bin. It should be placed in Box 2, or flattened to pieces less than 75cm and placed alongside it.

Alternatively, you can take it to your local recycling centre.

Putting your bin out

Remember, your bin should be out at the collection point by 7 a.m. on the day of collection.

Can I get help to put my bins out?

Yes. If you are physically unable to put your bins and recycling out for collection, we can arrange an <assisted collection>. There is no charge for this service.

I need a new bin or my bin is broken

If you need any new containers, or if your bin is broken and need repair, please report it to us using <this link>.

My bin hasn't been collected

Have you checked to make sure that your bin only contains garden waste?

Did you put your bin out by 7 a.m.?

If the answer to all of these questions is yes, please <Report a Missed Collection>.
