For frequent travellers, instead of the old-style paper voucher booklet, they can now transfer their existing vouchers on the ferry quickly and easily to a reusable top-up card.
Ticket transfers to the card will be available until Friday 1 May, which gives travellers eight weeks to move their existing crossings over.
Travellers buying a top-up card can make huge savings with drivers being able to buy quantities of 10, 20, 40 crossings.
Foot passengers can get 40 crossings for only £25, saving a whopping £35! To make things even easier, cards can be bought during their ferry journey so no need to visit the Ferry office.
South Hams District Council's Deputy Leader, Cllr Hilary Bastone, said: "We need to look at both the big and the small changes we can make to reduce our carbon footprint. The reloadable card is more eco-friendly because you can keep reloading it and it saves having to keep reprinting books and wasting unnecessary paper.
"Similarly by stopping taking small payments by cheques, we are encouraging our users to take advantage of either card or cash payments, in line with most other businesses who have long since moved away from cheque payments."
