South Hams District Council has announced a programme of resurfacing works will begin in three busy Totnes car parks in September.

Civic Hall, The Nursery and Heath's Nursery car parks are all in need of resurfacing work, and this is expected to begin from Monday 9 September.

The works have been carefully planned to ensure that there is minimal disruption to the town centre, and the popular Friday and Saturday market.

Work is expected to begin at Civic Hall Car Park on Monday 10 September, and be completed on Thursday 13 September. The contractors will then move onto the Nursery Car Park, aiming to complete work here by Monday 20 September, before tackling Heath's Nursery from 20 to 24 September.

Cllr Rufus Gilbert, Executive Portfolio Holder for Commercial Services at South Hams District Council, said: "I'm pleased to see that these works will be starting shortly, and I know that there has been a great deal of work behind the scenes to ensure that the work could be carried out quickly and with minimal disruption. I'm looking forward to seeing enhanced parking facilities in one of our most popular areas, and I hope residents and visitors alike are pleased with the results."

Each of the car parks will be closed on the specified dates; however there will only be one car park closed at any one time. Permit holders may use any other car parks during the work, with the exception of the short stay car park at Victoria Street.

The bottle banks from Heath's Nursery car park will be temporarily moved to Longmarsh Car Park for the duration of the works. Alternative recycling facilities are available at Pavilions and Morrison supermarket.
