In May 2015 I was elected as ward Councillor of Salcombe & Thurlestone, previously representing Westville and Alvington, from May 2011.
My parents farmed in Berkshire but rather unknowingly I must have had a very different career ambition because I moved to West Sussex and ran a Sea School for a number of years. This experience led to my move to the South Hams where I have lived in West Alvington for thirty years . For much of this time I worked for a boatyard in Salcombe. A number of interesting challenges lay ahead and I ended up as the UK and Ireland distributor for a range of American sports boats.
My wife, Mary, and I enjoy living on a small holding surrounded by ducks, geese, turkeys, chickens and our two family dogs. Our two children Adam and Emma thoroughly enjoyed life in the South Hams but have now left home in pursuit of their chosen careers, Chemical Engineering and Cardiac Physiology.
Mary and I can often be seen escaping for a couple of hours to sail our much loved Drascombe Lugger in the Salcombe Estuary.
