Cllr M F Saltern

Ward Councillor for Ivybridge West

Cllr M F Saltern

I have been elected as ward Councillor for Ivybridge West, formerly representing Ivybridge Central from 2003. Previously, I was a member of South Hams District Council (for Ivybridge) for the period 1995 to 1999 and held the position of Chairman of SHDC for the municipal year of 2004/5.  I also held the Housing Executive portfolio for five years up to May 2012 and previously held the Community Affairs Executive Portfolio from 2005-2007.

I served my career in the Civil Service, most recently as a Higher Executive Officer in both the MOD and DWP.  I am currently a Director DCH Group CIC and a Director of Westco Properties Ltd.  Affordable housing is such an important issue for so many people.

One of my key interests is Housing, to which I devote a considerable amount of my time to.  Other special interests are that I have served as a Governor of Ivybridge Community College for nineteen years and am currently Chair of Governors.  I am also Vice Chair of the Ivybridge Academy Trust and I am pleased to have served on the Police & Crime Panel until February 2017 as I am committed to working towards safer communities.

I have served on Ivybridge Town Council for thirteen years and held the office of Town Mayor for two terms.

I was awarded the Knights Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland in 2005 for services to Polish war veterans who served under British command during World War 2.
