What is the purpose of the Buildings at Risk Register?

The Register intended to focus attention on neglected historic buildings. It is a working document for the Council, which helps to define the scale of the problem of neglected Listed Buildings in the District. Those buildings considered to be most at risk can then be prioritised.

Including a building on the Register is not intended as a criticism of the owner or owners; many people are actively seeking ways to secure their building's future. Advice for repairing and preserving historic buildings is available at Historic England.

A building's inclusion on the Register does not mean that it is for sale.

Suggested alternative uses for the buildings are always subject to the grant of the necessary permissions, consents and regulations.

This Register has been compiled by South Hams District Council from available information held on Listed Buildings in the District. Although every effort has been made to ensure that the information in the register is accurate, some errors are inevitable as the situation is constantly changing.

The council welcomes information and corrections to help us improve this Register.
