These web pages provide information on the local spatial planning that the Council is required to undertake to ensure the delivery of sustainable development across the South Hams. This includes the South Hams Local Development Framework (LDF) and saved policies from the preceding South Hams Local Plan. Together these provide guidance on what kind of development and use of land will be permitted in the South Hams.

The LDF project plan (known as the Local Development Scheme) shows the timetable for the preparation of these documents. It also shows which policies are saved from the Local Plan that was adopted in 1996. As new LDF documents are adopted they replace the relevant sections of the adopted Local Plan.
The LDF and saved Local Plan policies are used to guide day to day development management decisions about planning applications and support good and consistent decisions.
