During severe wintery weather the Council will endeavour to keep priority car parks (see list below) in a usable condition. Depending on its size and use, the areas near the disabled parking bays will be attended to, rather than the whole car park.
Wherever possible, this will be done in partnership with local town councils or other willing partner organisations.
The Council will, where it can, use its own staff and resources to supplement the volunteer groups. Where possible, local supplies of grit will be in place to assist in gritting the car parks.
The list of priority car parks that we will try to keep clear of snow and ice is shown below. There may well be circumstances where it is not possible to keep even these car parks clear, so users should always take their own precautions.

Parking in severe weather conditions
The Council will take all reasonable precautions to make the car parks as safe as possible to use. However, we will not be able to guarantee that they are always safe during severe and adverse weather conditions, particularly where there is a sudden freeze or fall of snow, and so all vehicles using the car park must be driven and parked with care.
All vehicles and contents are left at the owner's risk.
As some of the Council's car parks are on sloping sites, vehicle drivers should be reminded that they should check that their vehicle is not likely to slide, even when parked, due to ice or snow on the car park surface.
Drivers are advised to return to their vehicles at regular intervals to ensure that the vehicle remains safe.
Car parks are used by both both pedestrians and vehicles; please exercise great care in severe weather to ensure the safety of pedestrians.
