The plan endeavours to consider all the issues facing the long term health of the estuary.

The aims of the plan are:

• To conserve and enhance the natural environment of the estuary and its surroundings

• To accommodate the recreational use of the estuary at a scale which is appropriate and sustainable to the estuary environment.

• To encourage the sustainable management of the surrounding countryside, conserving and enhancing native habitats and wildlife, the Estuary, and the commercial viability of local agricultural and forestry interests.

• To safeguard the interests of the local economy and encourage initiatives that contribute to the prosperity of the local communities and are compatible with the overall aim.

• To increase the local community’s awareness about the Salcombe- Kingsbridge estuary, The environment Management Plan and of its environmental responsibilities.

• To seek to improve the water quality to a level which supports both a healthy estuarine eco system and the local community’s recreational, aesthetic and commercial needs.

• To inform visitors of good environmental practice on and around the estuary with the aim of raising awareness.

•To manage the Salcombe-Kingsbridge estuary in a way that is sustainable to that environment and that actively involves the whole local community – recreational users and commercial interests of the estuary.
