The South Hams benefits from a well balanced economy that creates a variety of opportunities for enterprises within the district. The district council works to help improve businesses access to such opportunities and in turn benefit local prosperity. It does this through a variety of means, including:

- referrals to professional business advice organisations
- developing and working with business sector forums
- working in partnership with government, local authorities agencies and businesses
- contributing to consultations on economic matters affecting the district
