Housing Policies and Strategies

The Council considers affordable housing for local people as one of its key priorities.  Many local people are experiencing difficulty in finding a home of their own to buy or rent due to the increase in house prices and private sector rents in the recent years.  In the summer of 2004 the average house price in the South Hams was £261.576 (Land Registry web site) whereas the majority of people earn less than £20,000 per year.

Throughout the Housing web pages there are a number of different housing options that might be available and these are explained in detail for you.

If you require any further information you can contact the Housing Section on 01803 861234
