Road travel is a key means of transport for residents and businesses in our rural region.
The South West is well served from all parts of the country by the M6/M5 which extends just beyond Exeter, where it links in with the dual carriageways:
- A38 to Plymouth (the Devon Expressway).
- A380 to Torbay and the A30 into Cornwall.
- The North Devon Link Road A361 joins junction 27 of the M5 with the coast of North Devon.
- A39, which becomes the Atlantic Highway into Cornwall.
Devon County Council is the highway authority for the South Hams and responsible for the repair and maintenance of most public roads in Devon. The Highways Agency looks after the motorway and trunk routes and the Torbay and Plymouth Councils are responsible for the roads in their respective areas.
By being aware of where they are going to take place and planning around them, road works don't have to be a major problem.
- For the latest travel information about road works, diversions, temporary traffic lights etc. please log on to Devon County Highways Website.
