Community Composting is a system where the residents of a street or village join together to form a club and create one compost system to be shared by several households. The compostable material must come from domestic households and not from businesses. The compost that the group make they then take away for use in their gardens
To start a community composting scheme all you need is a suitable site and a small group of keen volunteers. There is help available from the Council in the form of the 'Community Composting Co-ordinator's' assistance and advice, grants to help with settting up a Community Composting group and also the use of a shredder for shredding larger woody pieces of garden waste.
There are currently community composting groups running in the following towns/villages in the South Hams.
