Did you know ? There are over 104 Children’s Playgrounds maintained by South Hams District Council. Most places will have a play area and main towns will have several play areas. Each will have equipment to help children gain confidence and important skills such as balance, climbing and strength as well as social skills from meeting other children.
Safety is an important issue and we use only equipment from reputable suppliers that conforms to the relevant British and European standards. Safety inspections take place by qualified staff on a regular basis and our Property Services endeavors to maintain the highest standards of equipment maintenance and cleanliness.
We have recently carried out an audit of play areas as part of our Public Space Survey to assess their condition and play value for children. We intend to use this to guide the way sites are improved and maintained with a number of town and parish council's.

Our Playground Promise to You:
We will inspect all playgrounds on a regular basis and will endeavor at each play area to ;
- Keep the play area well maintained
- Keep the play area clean and free from litter
- Keep the play area free from dogs ( where appropriate )
- Provide safety surfacing for equipment that requires it
- Provide working self closing gates to each play area
- Provide an information sign at each play
- Provide an emergency phone number to report damage to
- Listen to your complaints and comments and deal with them courteously and promptly
You can help us by telling us when things are not working. Together we can provide excellent facilities for our children to learn, let off steam and have fun.
