Housing Associations

Housing associations are non-profit organisations, set up to provide affordable housing for those on low incomes or in housing need. Historically, housing associations have been in existence as "social landlords" for many years and in recent years the Government has decided that associations, rather than councils should be supported as the main provider of new social housing, both for rent and shared ownership.

The housing associations work in partnership with the District Council in the implementation of a common waiting list. This means that people who apply to the Council for accommodation can also be placed on the Housing Associations' register.
