Where am I on the Council's Housing Register?

The points you are awarded on your housing application place you on the Council's Housing Register. However the Council receives aprroximately 50-100 applications per month and therefore your place is subject to change on a day to day basis.

How soon will I be housed?

There are currently over 1800 households on the Housing Register and approximately 100 households in temporary accommodation. To give you some idea only 28 dwellings (not including elderly persons accommodation) were made available to the Council by housing associations in the four market towns in the period from December 2003 to October 2004.

What is shared ownership/Homebuy/Key Worker scheme?

Shared Ownership is a stepping stone between renting and and outright home ownership. You buy a share of a property usually 25% or 50% and pay rent to a housing association on the remainder.

Homebuy is a scheme whereby you find a property to purchase and are given a 25% equity loan from a housing assoication which is interest free. The loan is paid back at market value when you sell the property

Key Worker Scheme is very similar to Homebuy but is aimed at people who work for Devon County Council, Health Authority of Local Authority.

To be considered for any of these schemes you must be on the Council's Housing Register. More information is given on this schemes on the Owning and Renting page of this website.
