The Council no longer owns its own housing stock but is able to nominate people with high housing needs for tenancies in various Housing Associations, like Tor Homes.
Unfortunately the need for housing is much greater than the supply of houses available. There are nearly 2,000 households on the Council’s waiting list but usually fewer than 200 properties become available each year.
Because of this we have to decide who has the greatest housing need so that we can make sure they are housed first.
We keep a housing register of everyone who has applied for housing and to help us decide who has the greatest need we operate a points system. Points are based on a number of considerations such as:
- Unsatisfactory, temporary, or insecure present accommodation
- Medical welfare
- Hardship
- Length of time on the Housing Register
- Local connection

Anyone over 16 can apply to be put on the Housing Register. If you would like to be considered for housing please print off and complete the
Housing Application Form and, if it applies to you, the
Housing Medical Questionnaire, and return them to:
