South Hams District Council works in partnership with the Residential Landlords Association to provide information and advice to private sector landlords and prospective landlords and a Landlords Forum is held twice yearly.
In such a high house price area as the South Hams, having a good stock of private rented accommodation is essential. It is hoped that providing an information and advice forum for landlords will encourage landlords to stay within the sector and may also encourage prospective landlords to buy property locally.
Direct Lets
Direct Lets is a comprehensive property-management service set up and run by South Hams District Council. The scheme works closely with private sector landlords to improve access to a portfolio of private sector tenancies for families in housing need.
The scheme offers a competitive property-management service with a range of incentives to Landlords, in return for an agreed letting period from the landlord.
All tenants selected for the scheme are put forward through our housing options team, and are credit checked and referenced prior to a tenancy being taken up.
The scheme aims to provide a good standard of private accommodation to local families with long term accommodation needs.
