Fair and Flexible - draft statutory guidance on social housing allocations for local authorities in England
Government consultation
Closing date for responses Friday 23rd October 2009
In his statement on Building Britain's Future to parliament in June 2009 , the Prime Minster stated that "..... by building new and additional homes we can now also reform social housing allocation-enabling local authorities to give more priority to local people whose names have been on waiting lists for too long"
This coupled with the recent House of Lords ruling in the case of R (on the application of Ahmed v Newham LBC), which amongst other things removes the requirement to take into account cumulative need when prioritising applicants, had led the government to issue the consultation document " Fair and Flexible". This consultation seeks views from a wide range of organisations and individuals who may be affected on a proposed statutory guidance that will be issued in November 2009.
We are seeking your views on this consultation document which can either be sent direct to the CLG or e-mailed to housing.advice@southhams.gov.uk for inclusion in the Council's response. If you wish for your views to be included in the Council's response please e-mail them by the end of September 2009.
If you have any questions or wish to discuss the document please contact the Housing Advice Manager on 01803 861234
