Disabled Facilities Grants have a statutory test of resources. This means that the applicant and certain members of the household will be assessed to determine how much they must pay towards the cost of the works. The test of resources is laid down in legislation which applies throughout England. It takes into account capital and the money coming into the household, but not outgoings such as mortgage or rental payments. If you are assessed as having to pay £1,000 towards the cost of the work, you will be required to pay this, irrespective of whether the cost of the work is £1,001 or £18,000.
However, where the disabled person is a child, the test is not applied to the parents.
The contribution which an applicant must make towards the cost of any approved grant work depends on a variety of factors. In order to get a more accurate picture of your likely contribution it is recommended that you complete an Enquiry form. A calculation can then be done based on your particular financial situation.
