The Devon Care and Repair Home Improvement Agency is supported by South Hams District Council. It provides a free advisory service for older and disabled home owners and private tenants in the South Hams who need to repair, improve or adapt their home. The Agency can help in many ways, including giving technical advice, finding reliable builders, overseeing the work, submitting grant applications and other documentation, checking benefit entitlement and finding alternative funding options.

A handyperson scheme operated by the agency is aimed at reducing both accidents in the home and the fear of crime. Free home safety checks are included and a whole range of small jobs can be carried out at a modest labour charge. (For those in receipt of means tested benefits, this charge is waived).
