Seagulls are an integral part of any seaside area and South Hams is no exception. The migration of gulls from their cliff top nests into towns and villages has become a matter of contention in the South Hams. People have called for their removal by culling, trapping, etc, whilst others enjoy them as part of the “seaside experience”.
What follows is a description of what South Hams does to help alleviate the problem and what the public can do to help.
South Hams District Councils Responsibility
The Council takes the problems of seagulls seriously and efforts have been made to minimise their impacts. Officers have also spent time looking at the various options available and assess how effective they would be. There is, however, no statutory requirement upon South Hams District Council to control seagulls.
