In 2008 - 2009 South Hams residents recycled and composted 58% of their household waste, giving the South Hams the fourth highest recycling and composting rate in the country.

During 2008 - 2009 people in the district recycled over 6000 tonnes of paper and cardboard; over 300 tonnes of plastic; over 500 tonnes of metal and composted more than 9900 tonnes of organic waste.

Working together, we also sent the least amount of waste per household to landfill in the UK.
