Environmental Issues

Welcome to Environmental Healths webpages.  Environmental Health is part of the South Hams statutory obligations.  Here you will find plenty of advice and information about a range of issues which Environmental Health deals with.  Our Environmental Health Service is responsible for a wide range of proactive and reactive services. The team consists of Environmental Health officers (EHOs), EH Technicians, and administrative staff.

The long term vision of the service is to ensure that through a process of advice, education and enforcement, the food we eat and the environments we live, work and resort to, are safe and with minimum risk to health.

Environmental Health has both an enforcement and advisory role in areas such as food safety, health and safety, pest control, noise, air quality, housing and energy efficiency. In addition many forms of licensing including public entertainment, taxis and private hire vehicles, zoos and street collections are the responsibility of Environmental Health.
