Introduction to using the interactive map
The interactive web based mapping service allows you to view Ordnance Survey maps of the South Hams overlaid with planning policies. You can look up addresses by entering a post code or street name and view details of the planning policy information for your property.
The service allows users to move around the maps and query layers of planning information presented. It contains up to date information on planning policies and proposals for the South Hams, outside of the Dartmoor National Park, taken from the 1996 Adopted Local Plan and the emerging Local Development Framework.
These plans contain the Council’s policies and proposals for the development and use of land and set out the criteria against which planning applications for development and use of land and buildings are considered. These development plan policies and proposals are expressed geographically in this mapping service and duplicate the information shown on the Proposals Map included in the adopted local plan.
These maps provide information on:
- Areas that are protected, such as nationally protected landscapes including the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and locally protected areas including Coastal Preservation Areas and Conservation Areas;
- Locations and sites identified for a particular land use and development proposals; and
- Mineral Consultation Areas which are including in the Minerals Local Plan adopted by Devon County Council.
The development plan attempts to strike a balance between protecting the unique environmental character of the South Hams and improving the well-being of the people of the South Hams, particularly by providing affordable homes and good job opportunities in a sustainable manner.
