A guide on the site inspection process

What is the Development Control Committee?

The Development Control Committee is served by 25 District Councillors who make decisions on all applications and enforcement matters affecting the South Hams, which are published in the agenda for that meeting. (Prior to the introduction of the Council’s new political structure during June 2001, this Committee was known as the Planning Committee).

Decisions of the Development Control Committee

For each planning application the planning officer presents a report containing an officer recommendation. An objector and supporter may speak about the application (see separate "Planning Applications ….. having your say" leaflet). There follows discussion by Councillors serving on the Committee, leading to their decision over the planning application, this could be: approval, refusal, deferment or site inspection.
