Development Management Officers - on a daily basis we:
- Give advice to the general public and professional bodies on planning matters, e.g. do I need planning permission for this? will the proposal be acceptable?
- Provide pre-application advice on proposed development
- Provide a Duty Planner service each weekday morning
- Process and make recommendations on applications for planning permission, Listed Building Consent, Conservation Area Consent, Certificate of Lawfulness, and Advertisement Control.
- Present applications to Development Management Committee
- In conjunction with the Enforcement Officer, investigate alleged breached of planning control and if necessary pursue formal compliance which may lead to Court attendance
- Deal with appeals lodged against planning refusals and service of Enforcement Notices by way of either exchange of written statements, Informal Hearings, or Public Inquiries
- The preparation of reports to the Council’s Planning Committee in the event of a failure to resolve outstanding issues through negotiation.
- The instruction of the Council’s Legal Services Group for service of enforcement notices, Injunctive relief or commencement of prosecution proceedings where appropriate
- Taking of statements and subsequent preparation of the Council’s case in prosecution proceedings for offences under planning legislation.
- Attendance at Court and appeal hearings to give evidence as necessary
Development Management Support
- Monitor S106 planning agreements
- Monitoring Service Group and other budgets
- Authorising ordering of stationery and equipment
- Production of various statutory and other statistics and performance indicators
- Maintenance of staff personal records, leave and sickness records
- Allocation of daily incoming post
- Maintenance of petty cash
- Reply to general correspondence
- Provide reception, clerical IT/word processing support to the overall Development Management Service, assist the public with planning enquiries, regarding all planning applications and to ensure the smooth flow of documentation around the department.
- Enter and Plot planning applications and check planning histories and constraints
- Validate and register planning and related applications
- Produce various plans as may be required
- Assist the public researching planning related information
- Production of the Development Management Committee agenda, its relevant reports and decisions, and issuing of decisions made by the Development Management Team
