The Development Management Service seeks to ensure that new development is in line with planning policies that are set out in the development plan. It is committed to seeking sustainable development in South Hams by successfully integrating all the social, economic and environmental issues that arise with new schemes. We seek to promote good design and a physical environment which is locally distinctive and respects the outstanding landscape of the district. This will be achieved by advising applicants of what is needed; expecting a high standard of submitted information and being prepared to refuse applications which have harmful impacts. We will also use our enforcement powers to deal with unauthorised and unacceptable development.
