Liability Orders
|
- A Liability Order gives us certain powers to enforce the debt. Each of the following options will involve you with additional costs:
- the Liability Order can be passed to a bailiff. See bailiffs.
- if you’re working, we may ask your employer to make deductions from your wages/salary. See attachments of earnings.
- if you’re in receipt of some state benefits we can ask for deductions to be made from your weekly entitlement. See attachment of benefits.
- if the debt is over £750 we may consider making you bankrupt - see bankruptcy - or, if you own the property, apply for a Charging Order to be placed on it. See charging orders.
- If all these measures fail we can, as a very last resort, go back to the Magistrates and ask them to consider committing you to prison. See committal proceedings.
