In most cases a person shall be disregarded for Council Tax purposes if he is detained in a prison, hospital or any other place by virtue of an order of court. (Only applicable to courts in the UK).
If the person is detained under certain parts of the Immigration Act 1971, or certain parts of the Mental Health Acts of 1983 and 1984, they may also be disregarded, and if this is the case, please contact the Revenue Section of the Council for further advice on 01803 861234.
If however there remains two or more adults not discounted, then no discount will apply.
If the detention is for either of the following, then the person shall NOT be disregarded:
- non payment of Council Tax
- non payment of a fine
For further information about, or to apply for this discount, please contact us on 01803 861234 where someone will be only too pleased to help you. In many cases there will be no application form to complete and all the information will be taken over the telephone.
