If a persons sole or main residence is in a nursing home, residential care home, hospital or hostel, they will be discounted for Council Tax purposes.

In most circumstances, because their sole or main residence has changed, they will have their Council Tax liability removed for the property that they used to reside in. If that only leaves one person remaining in the property (or all bar one are discounted) then there may be a 25% reduction in the amount of Council Tax due.
