If there is any change to your circumstances which may affect your liability for Council Tax on the property that you live in, or one that you own, you need to tell us immediately. Examples of these changes could be:
- changes in the number of residents who live in the property
- a resident becomes 18 years old
- you wish to change the way you pay the bill
- an occupant is entitled to/ceases to be entitled to a discount
- furniture is removed from/moved into the property
- someone passes away
When you contact us, depending on the nature of the enquiry you could be asked for more information.
Generally we need to know your name, an account number and the address in question. (If you are not a person liable to pay the Council Tax, we cannot give you any specific information about the property, apart from its band, and the address that is shown in the Valuation List. We will still, however, be able to take information from you).
If there is a change affecting your liability for Council Tax we will need to know the exact date that it occurred. The change may affect the amount you pay as Council Tax is always calculated on a daily basis.
If you have moved into a property, apart from the date you moved in and your particular details including your former address, we may also need to know the name and forwarding address of the previous occupier if possible. If you are moving out we will need to know the name of the new occupier/purchaser or landlord and your new address. All of this information will enable us to ensure that bills are issued correctly.
Please contact us on 01803 861234 if you have any problems or wish to pass on any information.
