A full Council Tax bill assumes that 2 adults live in your home. But if you live alone your bill will be reduced by 25%. Even if you don’t live alone your bill could be reduced because we don’t count some residents – we ‘disregard’ them.
To be disregarded as a:
Student - you must undertake a full time course with a prescribed educational establishment which lasts for at least an academic year (24 weeks/year) and an average of at least 21 hours per week.
If all the residents of the property are students, there will be no Council Tax to pay
Student nurse - you must be undertaking a nursing or midwifery diploma course.
Foreign language assistant - you must be registered with the British Council for educational visits.
Apprentice - you must be:
- employed for the purposes of learning a trade, business, profession, office, employment or vocation;
- undertaking a programme of training leading to a relevant qualification;
- in receipt of a salary or allowance substantially less than the salary you would be likely to receive if you had achieved the qualification in question, and in any case no more than a set amount.
Youth training trainee - you must be under 25 and undertaking training on an approved training scheme.
