This policy has been effective from 1 April 2002
The term ‘Personal Search’ refers solely to a search of the Local Land Charges Register, (including any other Register to which the Land Charges Register entry refers).
A personal searcher may inspect the Land Charges Register upon paying the prescribed fee.
Once the Land Charges Register has been inspected, the personal search has been concluded.
Additional enquiries to Building Control, Environmental Health, Drainage and Highways do not form part of a ‘Personal Search' and the personal searcher is not entitled to ask or expect answers to the questions shown on the CON29 Form search of enquiries.
A personal searcher is entitled to inspect certain other Public Registers free of charge.
Although these Registers are open for inspection, that does not mean that staff within those departments are under any legal obligation to supply supplementary or additional advice or information to a personal searcher.
It is not Council policy to issue anything in writing to a personal searcher.
A personal searcher must remember to collect all the information needed during his/her visit to the Council offices. Further information will not be provided or questions answered relating to personal searches over the telephone.
