The Council started the process of reviewing the South Hams Local Plan (adopted 1996) and published a First Deposit Draft Local Plan Review (2001-2011) for consultation in January 2002. This plan has not been progressed and has been superseded by the Local Development Framework (LDF) process which has now commenced. However, the draft Local Plan Review sets out the Council's thinking about future development in the South Hams. The Council will take its content into account when making planning decisions until new LDF documents replace it.

Notes on using the Local Plan Documents
You need Adobe Acrobat to view the plan documents (v4 or higher). You can download this by clicking the logo at the bottom of this page. These documents are large, and may take some time to appear, please be patient. You will see links to inset map pages in red typeface at the start of each chapter in the area documents. Where these maps are small (i.e. a small village) you will link direct to the map. For larger files you will be taken to a download page where you can see an estimate of how long the map will take to download. You will not be able to print the inset maps, you can however print pages from the plan documents. To interpret the inset maps you will also need the

The plans are best viewed at a screen resolution of 1024x768 or higher. If viewed at a lower resolution more use of the zoom option of Adobe Acrobat will be required (magnifying glass button). You may also find it helpful to print the pages that are of interest, use the printer button on the Adobe Acrobat toolbar.
