The community plan for Dartmouth and District grew out of the Market and Coastal Towns Initiative and was launched in summer 2004. The plan is now led by the Dartmouth and District MCTI group and their key objectives and major projects include:

Objective 1
To increase the levels of prosperity of the resident communities of Dartmouth & District through the further development of the tourist industry and the introduction of new employment opportunities offering a full range of remuneration.

Objective 2
To enhance the quality of life of residents of Dartmouth & District and improve social cohesion within the town and across the parishes.

Objective 3
To protect, enhance and capitalise on the history, heritage, geography and natural environment of the area.

Objective 4
To create, foster, nurture, support and guide the project groups established in pursuit of theses objectives.

Objective 5
To authorise projects.

A prime issue for the group is getting the right people together to bring their project ideas to fruition. They have recognised the need to find funding for paid project workers.

The groups' current major projects include: the provision of a heated, indoor swimming pool; the regeneration of Dartmouth Market Square and the creation of a marketing and branding operative to promote the businesses of our area, possibly in conjunction with Totnes. They are also supporting the activities of groups working to provide a public slip and the requirement for a Lifeboat based on the Dart.
