Community Planning is a process which helps local people to create a shared vision for their area and to identify priorities for action which are agreed by a wide range of people, organisations and groups through community consultation. The intention is to make a real improvement to the quality of people’s lives based on the aspirations and needs of local people.
Community plans include parish plans, Market & Coastal Towns initiative plans, village appraisals and village design statements. They tend to:
- identify which features and local characteristics people value;
- identify local problems and opportunities;
- describe how residents want the community to develop in the future;
- provide the basis for an action plan to help improve the area.
They help service providers, statutory bodies and the voluntary sector understand what the priorities are in the area and they can help to influence service delivery, planning issues and the development of new projects and initiatives.
