Is my project eligible for funding under South Hams District Council's Community Grant Fund?
All projects must help to meet at least one Council strategic priority or one cross-cutting theme.
The Council's strategic priorities are:
Securing a supply of housing for local people at affordable levels;
Creating the conditions for the growth and maintenance of quality economic activity;
Maintaining the district's distinctive environment whilst enabling access and sensitive development;
Maintaining a clean environment;
Working with others to improve access to key services.
The Council's cross-cutting themes are:
Climate change;
Meeting the needs of young people;
Promoting a healthier community.
The following are not eligible to apply for funding:
Individuals;
Businesses;
For profit organisations;
Projects which promote religious beliefs;
Projects which are the primary responsibility of another authority;
Projects already receiving funding from South Hams District Council;
Projects that have the sole purpose of raising funds for charity or another project;
Projects where construction work / the event / the project for which funding is sought has already commenced or takes place on an annual basis;
Repairs and maintenance e.g. replacement boilers, landscape maintenance;
Repeat applications from the same organisation are discouraged and will be automatically excluded in the funding round following a previous application. Similarly, applications for a project which has previously failed to meet the eligibility criteria will be excluded.
How much funding is available under the Community Grant Fund?
The total sum of funding available at June 2008 is £51,704. Applicants can apply for a maximum grant of 50% of the total project cost, with a minimum grant of £500 and a maximum grant of £25,000. All awards are dependent upon available Council resources.

My town / parish has no community plan. Why should we do one?
Undertaking a community plan will put you in a much better position to influence local and national government decisions regarding local services. It will also put you in a better position to attract funding as you will be able to demonstrate community need for projects. Further information is available at Community Planning.
