Changes to South Hams District Council's Community Grant Fund (CGF) have been approved to enable a wider range of new community-led projects that improve the well-being of the South Hams to be supported.
In addition to supporting projects that meet a Council priority (affordable housing, supporting the economy, maintaining a distinct and clean environment and improving access to services) the CGF is now be able to support projects which help to meet the Council’s cross-cutting themes of climate change, meeting the needs of young people and promoting a healthier community.
The CGF provides one-off ‘seed bed’ funding of up to 50% of the total project cost to new projects and initiatives. It is unable to fund ongoing projects, repairs or maintenance.
All projects must involve and benefit the community and have their match funding identified and preferably secured.
Since its launch in 2004, the CGF has supported projects which have included extensions and disabled access improvements to community facilities, a community garden, a business support project for people with disabilities and a series of renewable energy events.
The total sum of funding available is approximately £20,000 and applications are assessed against how well they contribute to each of the Council's priorities, cross-cutting themes and commitments.
The deadline for applications to the next round of the CGF is Friday 24/04/2009.
