Residents

The South Hams is a wonderful place to live uncrowded, unspoiled and with the mildest year-round climate on mainland Britain.

The historic towns of Totnes, Dartmouth, Salcombe, Kingsbridge, Modbury and Ivybridge, each with their own character, offer residents excellent services, good shopping facilities and a year-round programme of entertainment to suit all tastes.

It is an area of outstanding beauty with excellent coasts, countryside and moorland. Historically, the very name "South Hams" comes from an old Saxon word "Hamme" which means "a sheltered place".

These pages contain a wealth of information to help all those who live in the South Hams district.
