It is crucial for emotional, physical and spiritual growth, for intellectual and educational development and for acquiring social and behavioural skills. A Play Strategy is needed to set out how play opportunities are available for all children. The Strategy is borne out of a commitment to improve strategic planning and so increase access to, and participation in, play opportunities for all children, supporting the valuable role play has at an individual, family and community level.
