Interactive Maps

By reading the following Licence Agreement I agree to be bound by the terms and conditions for access to National and/or Authority datasets.

Introduction to using the Interactive map:

The interactive web based mapping service allows you to view Ordnance Survey maps of the South Hams overlaid with details of public space sites. You can look up sites by entering a post code or street name and view details such as the name and ownership of public space within a particular area.

The service allows users to move around the maps and query details regarding the different types of public space. When a particular site is selected, the site name, owner (if known) and type of site (e.g. play area) are all displayed. Please let us know if you think any of the details are incorrect so we can up date our records.

These maps provide information on:

  • The amount of public space available within the South Hams
  • The type of public space
  • Ownership details for each site

This mapping has been drawn up in order to complement a national mapping exercise of formal and indoor sport, which has been undertaken by Sport England and can be viewed at active places. Details of Public Rights of Way, cycleways and bridleways are shown on the Devon County Council Rights of Way map at Devon County Council.

For a short guide on how to use the South Hams Public Space maps, please see below. A short guide to using the South Hams Public Space Maps

Finding your area:

Assuming that you would like to find details relating to sites in your area, the first thing to do is to locate the site you are interested in. Do this by either:

a) Searching for the site in our gazetteer:

Click the ‘Address Search’ button at the top left of the Map screen

A new form will appear where you can enter the postcode, street or Grid Reference.  In whichever case enter the whole postcode, street name or Grid Reference, with spaces as needed and then click ‘Search’

A list of matching records will be displayed. Find your site on this list and then click ‘View on Map’

b) Navigating using the map:

Use the map navigation tools to find the right area of the map. Use the zoom in and zoom out buttons to change the scale, and use the arrows around the edge of the map to move around. If you want to see the whole of the district again, click ‘Zoom All’. As you move in closer the different types of public space will become visible as different coloured areas.

Looking at public space provision:

Once you have located the area you are interested in, please take a moment to see whether all the sites you are aware of are displayed.

If a site is visible and you would like to see further details, you can do so by clicking on a site, which displays Site name and Ownership in the ‘Details Found’ box at the bottom left of the screen. If you think details are partial or incorrect, please provide any additional information to us using the consultation response form.

If a site is not visible, please provide us with as much information as you have regarding position, ownership and use. Please use the consultation response form to do this.
