To ensure continued tree cover in South Hams, it is essential that new trees are planted and maintained. Planting in the District falls into two broad types:

Woodlands, Copses and Farmland Trees.

Depending on the size, type and location of the planting, grant aid may be available through:

If you are planting a significant number of trees you are advised to take professional advice to ensure that you choose the correct species, stock size, planting density and maintenance regime to achieve your intended aim. Advice may be available from:

New Trees on Development Sites and Specimen Trees in Towns & Villages.

Again, careful detail is required to make sure that species, stock size, planting density and maintenance are carefully considered. Planting near services, roads and properties requires a careful assessment of long term impacts.
