Can I have a barbeque on the beach?

This is up to the discretion of the owner.

Which beaches are lifeguarded?

Beaches are only lifeguarded in Summer.  For more information please look at the Visit South Devon - Beach Safety webpage.

Where can I get information on tide tables?

Harbour Office in Salcombe; 01548 843791 or look at the BBC website.

Is camping allowed on the beaches?

This is at the discretion of the land or beach owner. Please contact the South Devon AONB unit for details of ownership. Email: enquiries@southdevonaonb.org.uk or 01803 861384.

Is digging for bait allowed on the beaches?

There is no common law right to collect bait.  Please contact Devon Sea Fisheries on 01803 882004.

Are there any regulations on diving off the beaches?

There is no right of access over private land. Please contact the relevant harbour master

Do I need permission to hold events or film on beaches?

Please contact the Salcombe Harbour Office on 01548 843791 or Nigel.mortimer@southhams.gov.uk ONLY concerning Salcombe-Kingsbridge Estuary and South Hams District Coucil owned beaches.

Do I need permission for large vehicles to be taken onto the beaches?

You will need the permission of the land or beach owners. The coach park at both Slapton and Wembury is available by prior arrangement only. Please contact the South Devon AONB unit on 01803 861384 or enquiries@southdevonaonb.org.uk

Who is responsible for cleaning the beaches?

Private owners are responsible.

How can I contact the local lifeguards?

Who is responsible for the lifebelts?

Please contact Salcombe Harbour Office on 01548 843791.  

Where can I get more information on memorial benches?

Am I allowed to remove pebbles from the beaches?

NOT from Mansands, Beesands or Slapton Sands

Do I need permission to launch dinghies or park whilst launching boats?

Please contact the owner of the beach or slipway. For Salcombe please contact the Harbour Master on 01548 843791.  

Do I need permission to remove seaweed from the beaches?

It is OK to take dead seaweed as long as you have permission to transport from the foreshore. You will need permission from the harbour master to take living seaweed and you will need to discuss the quantity and reason for removal.
