The Beacon Scheme identifies excellence and innovation in local government. It Is much more than just a badge, however. The scheme exists to share good practice so that best value authorities can learn from each other and deliver high quality services to all. To find out more about the Beacon Scheme please look at the I&DeA website.
The scheme is an exciting opportunity to work with some of the most committed and high performing people in local government. The becon councils are also keen to learn themselves from the experience and achievements of others so that standards can be improved countrywide.
In 2004 South Hams District Council was successful in achieving Beacon status in the theme of Promoting Sustainable Tourism.
The council also received recognition in the theme Affordable Housing for the year 2005-2006.
