To qualify to stand as a candidate for Parish and Town Council elections you must be a British or Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland or citizen of an EU member state and you must have reached the age of 18 by the day of nomination.
In addition, and in order to continue to hold office, a candidate must qualify under at least one of the following conditions:-
- on the day of the election and thereafter continue to be registered as a local government elector for the parish
- during the whole of the preceding twelve months have occupied as owner or tenant, land or other premises in the parish
- during the twelve months preceding the date of nomination the candidate's principle or only place of work was in the parish
- during the whole of the preceding twelve months the candidate has been resident in the parish or within 4.8 kilometres of it
