Local Government Review in Devon - latest news
On December 7th, the Boundary Committee published its report on local government reorganisation in Devon and recommended to the Secretary of State that a single unitary authority be created for Devon, based on the existing Devon County Council area. The recommendation also stated that a separate unitary authority for Exeter should not be implemented.
The next steps appear to be down to the Secretary of State, who can either implement the original proposals of Exeter City Council with or without modification; implement the Boundary Committee's proposal for a Unitary Devon, with or without modification: or take no action.
The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has stated that anyone who wishes to make representations on any unitary proposal that he is considering, or on any matters connected with it, can do so by 19th January 2010.
All such representations should be made in writing and sent to the following email
DevonStructures@communities.gsi.gov.uk
or postal address:

Don't delay speak up before 19th January 2010.
