Introduction to using the interactive map
The interactive web based mapping service allows you to view local planning policy areas superimposed over Ordnance Survey maps of the South Hams. You can look up addresses by entering a postcode or street name and view details of the planning policy information for your property.
The service allows users to move around the maps and select layers of planning policy information. It contains up to date information on planning policies and proposals for the South Hams - outside of the Dartmoor National Park boundary - taken from the Local Development Framework and the 1996 Local Plan.
These plans contain the Council’s policies and proposals for the development and use of land as well as setting out the criteria against which planning applications for development and use of land and buildings are considered. These development plan policies and proposals are shown geographically through this mapping service and duplicate the information shown on the Proposals Map.
A guide to using using the interactive maps
These maps provide information on:
- areas that are protected, such as nationally protected landscapes including the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and locally protected areas including the Coastal Zone and Conservation Areas
- locations and sites identified for a particular land use and development proposals and
- Mineral Consultation Areas, which are including in the Minerals Local Plan adopted by Devon County Council.
The development plan attempts to strike a balance between protecting the unique environmental character of the South Hams and improving the well-being of the people of the South Hams, particularly by sustainably providing affordable homes and good job opportunities.
The Proposal Map currently consists of policies and proposals from the adopted Local Development Framework documents, namely the Core Strategy, the Sherford New Community Area Action Plan, the Development Policies and five Site Allocations Development Plan Documents (DPDs) together with those policies ‘saved’ from the adopted 1996.Local Plan
The adopted Proposals Map is available in an interactive online map to enable it to be easily updated when new policies and proposals are adopted. The Proposals Map was last updated in February 2011 to take into account the five Site Allocations DPDs.
