The Council has published a series of consultation leaflets for Dartmouth, ivybridge, Kingsbridge, Totnes and their hinterland areas. These identify possible site options for housing (especially affordable homes), employment and associated community facilities. Consultation is open throughout May and June 2009.

The Council published a Totnes/Dartington Preferred Options Development Plan Document (DPD) in October 2007 which set out the future planning framework for Totnes/Dartington to 2016. It included site specific allocations for new housing, employment and mixed development. The Preferred Options document was available for comment over a six week period from 19 October to Friday 30 November 2007.

The work carried out and comments made in 2007 when the Council published Preferred Options for Totnes and Dartington will be built into the Site Allocation DPD currently under preparation.

In October 2004 the Council published the Issues, Options and Preferred Options document as the first part in the South Hams Local Development Framework (LDF) process. This included a section on Totnes and Dartington. The Preferred Options document builds on that earlier work and the public response to it.

A common evidence base paper for the DPD and the Sustainability Appraisal Report has been produced to help assess potential development sites through a process known as Sustainability Threshold Assessment.

Sustainability Appraisal

The Totnes / Dartington DPD has been subject to a Sustainability Appraisal (SA), incorporating Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA), during its preparation. A Sustainability Appraisal Report accompanies the Totnes / Dartington DPD Preferred Options Report which sets out the findings of the SA.
